Fall Photos from my phone

For my birthday in September I got a new phone & we went to the circus!  I am just now learning to get my pictures onto my blog, better late than never!
Max liked all of the colorful displays.
 Ellie loved the elephants!
Here is my attempt to show the big cats!  The circus was impressive & a bit of a sensory overload experience for most of us!
In October we picked up Oksana & Valentina from the SLC airport and stopped by the witch displays at Gardner's Village!
They have very fun witches, but it's more fun trying to get a smile out of Max!
 Such a cute place.
We took them to one of Porter's football games at the high school & Ellie was one of the performing cheerleaders that night.  It was great having them visit!
The Orem Fire Department put on a Community Visit and we couldn't miss the fire station with Max!  We met up with Mary, Lyla, Cooper & Hudson and it was quite an event!  Max loved Smokey the Bear!
Cooper & Max "driving" the fire engine.
Here is the truck they drove!
Cooper was most excited for the cotton candy that his teacher told him about!  Does his face express that enthusiasm or what?  It is actually priceless of them all!
We have had a great Autumn this year, nice and warm.  We have taken advantage and gone up the canyon.
 What cute kids!
Our way up is on our bikes!
We make quite the group, even without Zane & Porter.
Max has a play group with some neighbor friends.  This was at our house when the kids dressed up in their costumes!  Max, Gwen, Ryker & Evie.
This time, Max, Benson, Quinn & Gwen!  Such cute kids posing with Max's favorite decoration ever, the blow up ghost & Jack O'Lantern!
Lastly, Mark was up for re-election!  This is my ballot with his name in the middle column on the bottom!  Yes, I voted for him & Romney all on the same ticket.  Too bad about Romney, but Mark won which means he will serve the exact same terms as President Obama!

Timpview has had the odds stacked against them this year, but with a new coach & a forfeit of a few games due to ineligible players we still made it to the State Finals this coming Friday night.  So wish Porter good luck & feel free to join us in the stands!  Here is how we have spent our time lately... Game #1 was in Logan and so we decided to fly there on a chilly yet gorgeous day!
Porter is #46 and we beat Logan soundly.
Game #2 was in Bountiful at Woods Cross HS, Ellie & Savannah came to this warm game and came to talk to Porter on the field after they played on the hurdles the entire time.
Here is Porter after another victory!  Turns out my hat was more for shade than warmth and I only put my coat on to carry it back to the car, we were roasting!
Watching the play at Woods Cross.

This is what the field looked like as the T-birds took to playing at Rice-Eccles stadium at the U.  We were playing our biggest competition and it was a great game.
Porter's perspective when he arrived!  It snowed during the entire game, this wet, soak your clothes snow that was constantly being shoveled off of the field.
Max spent the majority of his time eating the snow.  This is a cute one of him, but Porter is obscured.
This is great of our #46, big brother but the typical Max photo!
Here we sit all cozy & warm (Ha!).

Mark & Ellie were the sole survivors in our seats, some of us took to the portal or walking the stairs.
Here we are victorious with all players rushing onto the field!  Fun, wet, cold and we'll do it again this week!

Disney On Ice

As one who grew up so close to Disneyland & is constantly reminded of that fact by parents & a sister & her family with season passes, I did the next best thing for my youngest two, Disney on Ice!  This is the view from our seats pre show!
These are the "It's a Small World" floats left out at Intermission.
Max was in love with the Woody cup full of snow cone and his favorite character is Mickey Mouse.
The show was great and I would highly recommend it!  I was serenaded by Ellie the entire time (as were our neighbors) and loved watching Max's reactions.  His favorite of the night was Goofy.
The trees outside of the Arena!

I am so impressed by the cheerleaders who made signs for each & every player & hung them at the respective houses before the semi-final game.  Just to show our appreciation we put it up yesterday too!
This is Porter heading to school with his bleached mohawk!  The entire team went did it!
Entering the field on game night.
Max is the farthest seat from everyone!
I went to join him & this was his cough syrup induced nap during the 2nd & 3rd quarters!  Poor sick kid!
 Our favorite #46!
The vicorty haka chant!  Yes, we won 38-31 in double overtime at a crazy & exciting State Champion game! A hard fought game against Mountain Crest from Logan.
Our little group waiting to greet Porter!
He finally came to give us a high 5!
I am glad he got a photo with the trophy!  How cool is that!  Way to go Porter & team!

We love the farm!  The moment we arrived Ellie disappeared into the great outdoors, we all needed out of the car!  Notice Zuka in the background immediately treeing the cats.
Mark & Max made it to the tractor!
How fun that we had cousins from all over to play with...
and Uncle Mike to live at the card table!
 We painted nails,
 rode motorcycles,
 did gingerbread houses with grandma,
and ate.  This was our Thanksgiving spread, the kids' table
 and the rest of us!
I had to put this one in of Porter!  Notice that fine food!
After dinner we had picture time,  grandparents with 16 of their 18 grandkids!
There was always time for Walt's too!
Does grandma ever stop cooking?  She even did the pizzas at Walt's for us!
 A cute girls' table,
 Porter with Glenn,
 I was there too!
Ellie even got to ride horses this time!
Levi & Tanner were my champion cup stackers
This was our Gingerbread house parade staging area, they were all so cute!
Doc & Linda with all of their kids, phew what a week!  I'm sure their house will never be the same!

We were among the first to ride Frontrunner from Provo to SLC!  A fun train ride to see the new Blickenstaff's Toy Store!
Ellie & I went to the Nutcracker, our tradition.
We ran into TJ & fiance Kim at the performance just before we all went to St. George for their wedding!
We have had multiple snowstorms & Max loves making snow cookies!
My attempt to capture Max's excitement to see Santa at our Ward Christmas Party!  He was jumping up & down the entire time!
" All I want for Christmas is a Light Pillow Pet!"
My favorite package from Grammy!  Max's favorite part of the getting goodies, the box!  It was hide & seek for days!

Our family at the St. George temple
All of the cousins with TJ & Kim at the temple (we will play can you spot Max? - probably not)
But here he is rolling out cookies, I'm not sure why he disrobed, but hey, he helped!
As did the boys who worked on the Eagle Project.  Decorate your own cookie as a treat, perfect!
That's right, any sane family would have steered clear of any addition project at Christmastime, but not us, we have boys who need to get their "Eagle" rank.  Zane built these cabinets for a local community center.  It was his greatest Christmas gift to them & to me, his mom, finally done!

We have had an amazing winter, more snow than we know what to do with!  This was storm #1, notice still green grass!
Storm #2 covered everything, including the road!
Zane decided to try urban skiing!
 Tanner decided to eat some!
Our backslope, a beautiful sight, but very steep.
 The snow cave out front.
Hours of entertainment on the hill across the street.  This is me with Zane.
The Barbers came to play & this time we had more than enough snow!

Last Friday was absolutely gorgeous, the perfect day to take Max to the slopes.  We picked up Tanner from school & headed to Sundance for the afternoon.
It was Ellie's ski day with school, so she stopped to say hello a couple of times!
Here is Max on the world's most miniature skis!
He enjoyed posing on the ground more than actually standing to ski!  We rode the tow rope, skied down a few times, sat in the snow & mostly just enjoyed being outside!
Honestly the most fun he had was climbing up the hill without skis, but at least we attempted it!
And of course the lollipop from the lodge made it a great day for all!  I love Sundance!

Are you kidding, look at her boots!  She played the cowboy part for Porter!  So cute!
The appropriate day date was at the shooting range!
 Cute Lennon & Porter!
All of the couples at our house for photos since the weather turned wet!  They had a fun time!

Looking at this crazy group that went for a gorgeous afternoon of Sundance skiing!
Grammy was such a trooper to head to the top with the locals!
 What a beautiful day!
We took a break to sit around the fire when Pops & Mark brought up the little ones.

Yes, we were eating our gigantic Sundance cookies & lollipops.  Then some of us stayed until 7pm to get in some great night skiing!  A great day!

The next snow activity for the Californians was sledding!  Go Pops!
Ah,  look at the sledding family! (and medium Max in the background - Tanner's friend)
 Grammy had a hitchhiker!
And Lexi slept through the whole thing!
We had a great time with you this weekend, come again!

Porter & Mark were able to go to Washington D.C. for Mark's Board of Education meetings!  Lucky!
 I love the Lincoln Memorial!
Porter hopped in the Senate's bathtub!
 Sweet picture Porter!
Porter found his favorite place, a pretzel joint!
Now they are just rubbing it in!
 Nice self shots Porter!
This is the day he spent wondering through the Library of Congress trying to get some studying done, turns out there are no public desks to study at!
 Lucky Porter!
But we made our own fun & went to our first ever Real Salt Lake soccer game!  Zane stayed at his track meet so we took Medium Max instead.
To bad Max & Ellie wouldn't turn around for the picture!  The game was great but ended in a tie!
We also tried our own luck at home & the kids built leprechaun traps!  They did get some chocolate gold coins so it wasn't a total loss!

Spring Break in Palm Springs

My parents are officially the greatest!  They had us all gather to Palm Springs for some desert warmth & fun!  Easter Sunday we attended the Palm Springs Ward, A-frame, sunken pit for piano & organ and all!
 Here are the Openshaws!

Monday night we went on a covered wagon adventure to this cool oasis in the desert.  It was a fun night & I need to find more pictures of it!
We aren't sure what Max was doing, but Porter gave us his interpretation!
One day we went to see the dinosaurs per Max's request on his official form from Grammy.  He was trying to look like T-rex!
 Those are big feet!
This is one crazy group with the cool brontosaurus (apatosaurus since the name changed)! We called it bronto- when I was a kid and visited!
 Max loves all things dinosaur!
 Even being eaten by one!
While the older kids went shopping to the outlet mall, this small group stayed to enter the gardens.  We panned for gold & dug for dinosaur fossils.  It was great!
Max & Libby had the greatest time together!
I just love being with cousins!
A cool part was climbing into the mouth of the T-rex.  It was high, a bit of a challenge with the 3 young ones and not the best picture op, but necessary!

Another day we took our gang "hiking" to an oasis!  It was the most beautiful place!
Max loved climbing the cool rocks, and by cool, that means temperature too.  The oasis was amazingly breezy & pleasant on a 90 degree day!
 Oh, others enjoyed climbing too!
Resting from our rigorous hike!  (It wasn't far since the parking lot is actually at the oasis!)
 Max in his home!
Excitement when Porter spotted a rattlesnake stuck in this palm.  We watched the ranger rescue it since it was hanging by it's neck from a thorn.

Bec, Brad & I decided to go on a real hike after.  All others opted to return home for lunch & the pool.  I am really amazed we haven't done this before with all of our years in Palm Springs, it was incredibly beautiful!

What do you do in Palm Springs?  You chalk,
 you play dead,
 you golf,
 you hang out,
 you bug your grandparents
 and your siblings,
and you ride a covered wagon!  Along with swim, play tennis, ride bikes, eat & bask in the warmth!

We couldn't go to CA & not hit the beach!

We drove to my parent's house after Palm Springs with one thought in mind, make it to the beach.  The boys are very into volleyball right now so we quickly purchased one and set out to the closest beach with courts, that I could remember.  Well, here we are at Capo Beach playing with an imaginary net!  Who knew that there wouldn't be one!
Despite the foggy day, the sun emerged in the late afternoon at the beach & you guessed it...
we all went to the water.

Then we had the traditional Thrifty's ice cream after to meet up with napping Macbeths & Mark flying back into town!
